"Vortex" - Rosa Sigrun Jonsdottir 

These giant tornado like textile installation are mesmerising when in their presence due to the amazing knit pattern and the size of them as a collective. 

Theres not much information of these sculptures except the artist is situated in Iceland.  Regardless these were one of m favourite things on display at the MAC.

Patterns and Motif - Form

 Task-Part 1:

We had to select a household object and recreate it using mixed media: the item I had chosen was a Clothes Peg.

Choose two of your drawings and bring the image into Photoshop to recreate some patterns and motifs.

[Gallery visit 6] Ulster University

Brendan O'Neil - Untitled Blur.

I fell the intent of Brendan's work was to almost invoke frustration in not being able to read the writing. But the more I was surrounded by these blurred words I felt as though it was my sight, as though my vision was weakening. The amazing thing about this kind of art is it truly draws you in in searching for a word. But when you step back again you are simply enjoying the viewing of its form.

[Gallery Visit 4] James Wray & Co

                           

The James Wray gallery was filled with very expensive art from important twentieth century  paintings and sculptures. My eyes were mainly drawn to all of the beautiful Oil paintings that filled the room.

Lennon's 'Colour Collection' piece was one of my favourites as it had a very minimalistic feel to it but also felt quite rich due to the copper panels behind the oil. The light caught this piece beautifully due to the copper undertones.

I also admired the thick layering effect of Shawcross' oil painting, it gave a unique texture to the bottle that glass wouldn't usually have.

Typograghy

Task: We had to create 6 A6 Typographic collages.

This process including cutting up letter forms and manipulating them - meaning messing around with scale, repetition, layering, micro/macro compositions and positives and negatives.

 Task: 

Whats your first pets name ? Scamp 

Whats your mothers maiden name? Gillen 

That's the name of your character.

What animal best describes you? A Monkey - my Granada used to call me Megan the monkey.

Now draw the character with similar personality traits and clothing that you have on.

Lastly incorporate the characters name into your design.

[Gallery Visit 3:] Platform

Eternal Sameness - Jason Deans.

“What I really look for in my work is how the use of raw, natural materials can resonate, respond and retort to human interactions on the contemporary world.”

He is a Dublin based artist, whos work felt very raw and construction based. This was my very first exhibition in the Platform Art Gallery. I found it very interesting, when i initially walked in it was lit very dimly therefore setting an immediate dark tone.

This was my favourite piece from Deans work. Due to the deterioration as the sand columns continued. I feel many people could translate this piece differently but the artist himself saw it as a connection to the property bubble and the collapse of the property market which disastrously afflicted the Irish economy.
