Fashion and Textiles work shop

We were told to cut out shapes and rearrange them on the black paper and document them. The contrast of the black and white really make the designs pop.

Form

 Jewellery workshop.

We were shown the 4 main parts of jewellery and prior to the workshop we were told to bring in material to do with each area of jewellery.

Plainer: using various objects to create a sculpture, this can be different things combined; such as Tapestry backing, mesh sacking or lazer cut material. 

Pierced Plane: a flat piece of paternal with shapes or designs cut out of it; materials such as - ribbon, leaves, wire, paint sample.

Linear: sculpture made with straight lines e.g. Wire sculptures. Materials such as croche hook, string, chopsticks or rubber bands.

Volume: using objects to create a sculpture with volume, e.g wood, felt, tubes or polystyrene.

I began to experiment with recreating a snowflake shape made out of straws. 

Then I decided to use my very own object that i had selected from the beginning of the task and create different shape using the pegs to do so. For decorative effect I painted them with white acrylic and then painted the shape it was in a pattern using black - in order for it to have a strong contrast and stand out.

Experimenting with the object:

We had a workshop with Lauren Scott from Textiles on the 6th of December , we began by having a presentation about her work and she showcased all the amazing opportunities her work has provided her.

I really admire Lauren's work at how rustic and hand made it looks. I love how when you witness the animals for the first time you cant help but feel on edge at their creepy grotesque appearance. But as you look closer at these amazing animals the more you love them due to the intricate patch work.

Lauren then told us to do sample of weaving and patch work relating to our work and these were my final results:

We also had a ceramics workshop and presentation with Lauren's twin sister Julie Scott who's main focus in life is Ceramic's. 

Her ceramic sculptures are stunning and the process interested me so much that i was considering on doing it after Christmas.  

               

Julie then gave us the task of making sample pieces of your object out of clay.

[Gallery visit 8] Linen Hall Library

Linen Hall hung several floors of propaganda art and posters that depicted the Troubles in Northern Ireland. This was quite an insightful visit due to its dive back into history and showing how far we have come since those hard times. 

Artists of these work is unknown but i loved seeing all the contrasting colour in order to make there message clear in their work, (All the muted neutral tones contrasted by the vibrant reds.)

Majority of this artwork is quite dark and violent but this was a very effective way to push an issue and showcases the truth.

Patterns and Motif Artist Research

Vasare Nar 

I really love the incredible 80s/90s vibe that runs throughout Vasares' work. Being a 90s baby I am really drawn to the iconic patterns and designs from back then. She is a freelance Illustrator/ Artist who collaborates with various companies to create unique products such as; phone cases, t-shirts, household items ect.
