Colour studies and Creating an Animatic - Hot and Cold World: Group number 4.

I was placed into a new and new world - The hot and cold planet Cernunnus with Chloe, Piers and Shannon McAffee.

Task: To continue on with colour studies using warm and cool light.

We looked into the previous groups work in order to help inspire our work. We took their endling design and decided to use him in the environment.
In order to be more organised and work together as a team, we had a meeting and discussed what the layout of our colour studies should be and decide where warm and cool light will come into play. This really helped us understand what each person was doing and how we would all be on the same page by using a set colour scheme and following the short story board we put in place. The story board was a guideline to follow and it showcased a day in the life of an Endling.

The colour scheme was a great help as it made our work tie in better together.

My final warm and cool light concept sketches.

Artist influence:

Paul Lehr helped us get a sense of lose of gravity/ how things float in space and he was a great example for the in-between stage of the world as it helped us see his use of purple throughout his work.

We were then told we had to create an Animatic.
This was perfect as we already had a basic story board in place we just needed to add an continuous alternatives throughout to increase the dramatic potential.
questions we asked ourselves: What does the character want?
How does he get it?
Obstacle and intention.

Basic Plot:
The Great Flip.

The world flip is about to happened and all the Endling worship it except for three endlings who want to escape and find the myth that is the sanctuary. They set of on their journey. Two Endling along the way unfortunately don't make it due to obstacles in their way. Just before the flip the last endling witnesses the sanctuary but does he make it in time?

I began drafting my storyboard for my part of the animatic so I knew exactly when and where to move my characters. I got to animated to first scene where the endlings are having a party while the other three get ready to leave.

I used After Effects to edit my part of the animatic.

I was on a tight schedule when creating this as I had my brother wedding that weekend, however i thoroughly enjoyed this process. I gathered all my sound off of free sound.

This was the final outcome of our first attempt at our animatic.

The feedback we got helped us realise that we need some more movement and to edit the sequence better in order for it to flow as one. So when recreating the animatic we just did that to make it have more continuity.

Final Attempt at our animatic.

This time round I simply made the priest have more movement on stage. I then added in a shot of the three endling just to further draw the attention on them. Lastly, I added the crystal in one of the endlings hand when they are gazing at the map just for continuity purposes.
Also, as Shannon wasn't that experienced on Photoshop Chloe and I helped digitalise her drawings in order for them to look like ours.

Reflection:

I really enjoyed being on this team as I felt we truly worked together and not one person was slacking, everyone wanted to do the best they could. Lastly, I found it hard getting back into After Effects as I hadn't used it since the year before.  I felt our animatic turned out well, we really struggles trying to get our styles on the same track but overall it turned out good with the sound included.
