[Gallery visit number 10] Mapping Alternative Ulster

Different ways of looking at the land.

John Mckeagney:

Johnny is an Irish artist who lived in Co. Fermanagh. Mckeagney explored his locality in intricate detail, walked everywhere and spoke to everyone. Through hundreds of A3 posters he charted his local town lands, villages, lakes and rivers, but also the birdlife, local traditions, history, songs architecture and anything else that caught his interest along the way.'

Friend Map: John Carson.

I really loved this concept of placing a photograph of your friend and placing it on the location in which they live. Carson got a shop bought map of Belfast and went round to visit all of his friends and he took and printed a photograph of each person placed them in their location and then connected them all together with lines. This was by far my favourite piece at this gallery.

Mapping the Map - Catherine Porter and Keith Lilley.

A Map of Hannahstown - Eamonn Mccrory

Omagh Metro System - Benny Sweeney.

Cat and Mouse - Anne-Marie Dill

The Missing City - Forum for Alternative Belfast.

The Map of Connections 3.1 - Garrett Carr

Isolarion 1 - Seamus Dunbar

I really enjoyed this interaction piece by Dunbar. One day he decided to walk along an old railway track that ran from Enniskillen to Sligo. It had been closed since 1957 and decided to document and sketch his whole journey from Enniskillen to Sligo.
