Brendan O'Neil - Untitled Blur.

I fell the intent of Brendan's work was to almost invoke frustration in not being able to read the writing. But the more I was surrounded by these blurred words I felt as though it was my sight, as though my vision was weakening. The amazing thing about this kind of art is it truly draws you in in searching for a word. But when you step back again you are simply enjoying the viewing of its form.

[Gallery Visit 4] James Wray & Co

The James Wray gallery was filled with very expensive art from important twentieth century  paintings and sculptures. My eyes were mainly drawn to all of the beautiful Oil paintings that filled the room.

Artist name: Ciaran Lennon
Title: Colour Collection
Medium: Oil on Copper Panels
Price: £4650
Lennon's 'Colour Collection' piece was one of my favourites as it had a very minimalistic feel to it but also felt quite rich due to the copper panels behind the oil. The light caught this piece beautifully due to the copper undertones.

Artist: Martin Mooney
Title: Still Life
Medium: Oils
Artist: James Mckeowan
Titles: Figures on the Beach.
&
Children in the snow.
Medium: Oil paint.

Artist: Neil Shawcross
Title: Shortcross Gin
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Price: £5900
I also admired the thick layering effect of Shawcross' oil painting, it gave a unique texture to the bottle that glass wouldn't usually have.

Artist: Brian Ballard.

Artist: Philip Flanagan
Title: Daylight in the Pool
Medium: Oil on Canvas

Typograghy

Task: We had to create 6 A6 Typographic collages.

This process including cutting up letter forms and manipulating them - meaning messing around with scale, repetition, layering, micro/macro compositions and positives and negatives.

The original A6 collages.

Eternal Sameness - Jason Deans.

“What I really look for in my work is how the use of raw, natural materials can resonate, respond and retort to human interactions on the contemporary world.”
- Jason Deans

He is a Dublin based artist, whos work felt very raw and construction based. This was my very first exhibition in the Platform Art Gallery. I found it very interesting, when i initially walked in it was lit very dimly therefore setting an immediate dark tone.

This was my favourite piece from Deans work. Due to the deterioration as the sand columns continued. I feel many people could translate this piece differently but the artist himself saw it as a connection to the property bubble and the collapse of the property market which disastrously afflicted the Irish economy.

Animation

Our first task was creating your own story boards. My short story was called 'Colours of the wind' - showcasing a field with long grass as the wind passing through. The wind begins shifting and changing the colour of the sky, depicting a rainbow wave of leaves in the sky.

Using Photoshop to create a short GIF.
